How do you remove a starter from a 96 oldsmobile cutlass ciera sL 3.1?

pull the negative cable off of the battery. remove both of the bolts that hold the starter to the engine block, support it while you pull the 2 or 3 wires off. shift the starter to a position that will allow it to clear and then drop it to the ground. installation is pretty much the reverse order. the reason that you should pull a battery cable is so that when you drop that starter out, if the positive terminal makes contact with the block, you will not get hit with a shower of sparks or anything like that.

2001 Oldsmobile Alero air conditioning trouble?

Okay heres the deal, Its kinda complicated to explain and for me totally confusing. Alright, my friends 2001 oldsmobile alero has an air conditioning problem. The AC doesn't work in the first place. but what happens is when the air conditioning is off, the engine makes a terrible noise like metal grinding with metal. When the air conditioning is turned on however, it stops. Along with if you turn to defrost or defrost plus feet the noise stops. Or if you turn it to the mode where it recirculates the air that is inside the car it also stops. This car is a pile of ****. But all the other problems (for the most part) I can fix for him but this one doesn't make sense to me. I have theories but I dont wanna go make him waste his money based on my theories. I could see it if it happened when you turn AC on if it made that awfull noise I could probably find the problem but what its doing makes no sense to me. BTW its the 2.4liter L4 Engine its not the V6.

Car fuse instantly blows?

Hey everybody! Okay so I just installed a new deck into my Oldsmobile Nintety-Eight. After installing it, my digital gauges wouldn't show, nor would the radio work. After some examination I realized it was the radio fuse, which I replaced. After about 30 mins I came out to find it had blown again, and now when I try to put a new fuse in, it sparks and instantly blows upon insertion of the fuse box. Someone please help me out, I cant drive if I can't see my speed!

exhausts get annoying over time if there too loud. if it doesn't have to be fixed immediatley. save the money get it fixed correctly it will save you money long term especially when you go to sell the car. it depends what part of the exhaust is being fixed if your going from the catalytic converter back or just he muffler replaced which is bolt and you could do yourself. also with a car that old its very likely the exhaust has been modified or replaced and already is welded at which point do not attempt to do it yourself take it to a shop and get it done properly. idealy save your money and take it to a place to do it right. cops will find you pretty quick with an exhaust on a older sports car honestly just cause you can't see them doesn't mean the can't hear you.

Help could I have HIV ?

So 3 years back I got my belly button pierced at one of the local tattoo shops. The guy who did it followed all safety precautions. Like he where gloves, washed his hands and made me fill out paper work. The only thing is he didn't open the needle right in front of me. But from where I was standing It looked like everything was coming out of new rappers. After I got done he explained how to clean it and gave me a paper with directions on how to clean it and his card. when we got in the car my sister said that he did it wrong and that she didn't feel he was a good piecer. About three weeks later I came down with a fever and sore throat for about 2 days and 4 days after that I developed 3 mouth sores and burning lips and the inside of my nose would burn. The mouth sores and burning lips came back every mouth for about 4 mouths. The thing that is bugging me is that i swear i have hiv. I have gotten sick a couple of times over the 3 years and I always blame it on the HIV I think I have. I have had blood work done and doctors say everything looks normal. And for a long time I thought I was until today I got up with a swollen glade in my neck and groin and i still blame it on the body piercing i got years back. I have read that nobody in the history of body piercing has ever been infected with HIV. But that doesn't make me feel better. I keep thinking what if he had HIV and gave it to me on purpose or what if he opened all new things expect the needle and used a dirty one just cause. OK i have this 95 oldsmobile Acheiva S and to be honest i have no knowledge on cars and how to fix them...I have absolutely no knowledge on this subject at all. I was driving my car and had parked it to get my haircut and then when i tried to start it the car was like kind of "Puttering" and had trouble going...I had the gas mashed to the floor and it was going maybe 15 mph max...I ended up driving it to the mechanic and he was to busy to look at it but he said it could be the "Fuel Pump" from what he could see...I have also been told if it was the fuel pump it wouldn't run at all and it might be the fuel filter...My question is can someone explain to an absolute Lay Person how to look at this stuff and check and see whats going on...Is there an easy way to do it or does it need to be taken to the mechanic...My problem is that im unemployed and have no money to take to a mechanic so if it is an easy fix then id like to try it myself...Please if you answer try not to use to many tech terms because chances are i wont know what your talking about...Thanks

It is a 92 Oldsmobile 88 for 1,600 with only 105,000 miles, no rust once so ever and only has one previous owner who was a senior citizen. The big catch is that when I looked it over I found oil in the anti-freeze. If I can throw 400-500$ at this problem and make it go away I'd buy it because it is so cheap to begin with. But could it be a sign of something much more worrisome? Also it has a V6 3.8 liter engine if that helps.

do you have hub caps? if so did they tighten the hub cap lock? If so check to be sure the lug nuts are tight and to specs. I don't mean to sound anal but its a good idea to tighten the lug nuts to the right amount to avoid a wobble from them over tight

I have a 1998 Oldsmobile Silhouette. I just bought it last December. When we bought it the air conditioner was blowing cold but being december it would be cold outside as well. Then spring got here and now it's 86 degrees outside and the air isn't blowing cold anymore at all. I tried recharging it followed the directions on the can and did just as it directed and the air is still very warm and humid. A little insight, I had to change the serpentine belt when I first got it because the belt was very warn. Well then about 2 months later the belt broke and I found out I had been given the wrong belt at the part store and had to replace it again. So I did. Well now it is squealing again. This is about 3 months since the last time I changed it. It just started. I am wondering if these two problems could be related since the compressor is also on the serpentine belt. Mazda 626/ Lincoln Continental / Oldsmobile Intrigue?

I would get the Lincoln. Made for comfort. Well put together for a high mileage car. Not as good gas mileage. The AC does not work in one of the others. If you are in Atlanta you will wish it did. If the OLds has a overhead cam you do not want it! Mazda seems ragged to me. Tires will cost more for the Lincoln so be sure they are in good shape. Take it for a test run and beat the S*** out of it. Best way is to find a steep bridge, floor it going up and the take your foot off the pedal. If it coughs,hiccoughs or sputters, you may need some work done to it

Why is my car putting and wanting to stall?

I have a 1992 Oldsmobile Trofeo that acts as though its going to stall. Some work has been done on it and this little quirk is something the car just recently started doing. Whether the car is on idle or being driven it sort of putters and jerks a little and seems like its going to stall. Sometimes when it does this the car needs shut off then restarted and it will be fine but only for a short time and it will begin again. I've tried fuel injection already. Could i need a new fuel filter possibly? Oil change just recently done and all hoses seem ok. Anyone got any clue?

Do I have to bore my engine?

I have a 1997 Oldsmobile 88 base model with a 3.8 Series 2 engine. I want to replace the Head Gaskets only. I was thinking about doing it like this....You know remove the Heads, get the old gaskets off, then install the new gaskets, put the Heads back on. With the new Head bolts torque to OEM Specs. Is it a requirement, a necessary step to bore my cylinders when putting in new head gaskets? Head gaskets looks fine on my car right now, no problems that I know of. I just want to replace them. I'm also going to replace my valve cover gaskets, timing cover gasket, and intake gasket. Whats the point of boring my engine if I'm not installing new pistons! I hope the answer is no. It's not a bad choice and the price is right. If the water pump is the original this is a good time to replace it anyway, and if it fixes the leak it is totally worth it. If not, at least you have a new pump and can rule the pump out as the source of the leak.

I have a corroded screw on my back end of my Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. It's on the top half of my shock where it uses two screws to secure it to my trunk area. I don't know how long it's been stuck in there but I have newer shocks and that one side is knocking around because it isn't screwed in on both sides. Ok my car has been messing up for awhile its 95 oldsmobile cutlass supreme. It started of just one time starting hard and gradually has gotten worse. Sometimes usually after sitting for a few hours it will start fine and run fine. I will get to the store and park and turn it off, get done come out it will crank and crank and if it turns over i will give it gas and it acts like its not getting any and it will chug an eventually stall out, even if i get it running i have to drive it around the parking lot to ensure it doesnt stall out in the road. It is now to the point where it cranks and cranks and wont turn over, just changed the fuel filter.

Should I buy a grand prix even though Pontiac is gone?

Ok so I found a 2002 Pontiac grand prix gt for sale at a big dealership that has new and used cars for sale. They were asking $5,987 and I got them down to $5,000 cash out the door including tax, tag, title, etc. It's a great car! It has leather, sunroof, heads up display, power and heated driver seat, almost brand new tires, steering wheel controls, on-star equipped, and the headlights are clear, not foggy and cracked and in bad shape, Bose sound system, etc. It's a one owner car they got it on a trade in. Clean carfax. It does have 154,000 miles on it but it's in great condition! My dad (who by the way is not paying for it) says I shouldn't buy it because they don't make Pontiac anymore and they dont make Pontiac parts any more and that I should not buy a Pontiac or oldsmobile. i got a couple of 108 wraps. im 5'8 and 135 lbs. i practice both tae kwon do and boxing on my bag. i got some light boxing gloves for boxing in which i use the 108 wrap under the gloves. however for tae kwon do, i dont use the gloves. will 108 wraps be ok just for punching the bag by itself? should i use two 108's on one hand for a combined 216? or should i just get a 180 pair?

Whenever I have been in a McDonald's it seems filthy. They never wear gloves or hairnets while preparing the food. There was a hepatitis break out at one McDonald's in my city and another Hepatitis break out in a McDonald's in a city 2 hours away from here. This is due to people not washing their hands properly and no gloves. The floor just seems messy and sometimes the tables look unclean. One time I was in there someone vomited on the floor and it took them 15 mins for someone to go clean it up. This is why I never eat there anymore. My 99 oldsmobile bravada is having an A/C problem, cant figure it out. Someone please help!?

So when I try and turn on my a/c in my oldmobile bravada 99, the ac light just blinks. So i thought it was just low on Freon. Bought the freon, and it was full. Let me explain everything I have elimated. First off the compressor wont kick on, or does very seldomly. The shop automatically said I needed a new compressor, so I showed them that it was not the compressor by taking a speaker wire and connecting it straight to the battery and sure enough it started up. I was then told I needed a A/C compressor switch, and that did not work either. So we tried the freon thing again, and all the metal parts that should be freezing are cold. It will go on for like 5 seconds when I use the wire to the battery, and then blow out hot air. I took apart my glove box to see if a door is opening or not and nothing is moving, but then again the air wont stay on long enough to tell. From what we can see we do not see any broken wires. I really don't know what to do now, i have spent too much money on shops that keep giving me the wrong answer. I am trying to avoid the high fees of going to the dealer, so if you have any other suggestions I would sure appreciate them. Thank you.

Where is the expansion valve on a 1994 Mazda 929?

I recently had to replace my A/C compressor on my '94 929 and I chose to do it myself because when I called a couple shops to price the installation, labor would've been almost $600 plus the $400 I'd already spent for the new compressor and another almost $100 I spent on the new receiver drier and expansion valve, so I opted to install it myself since the only reason I was going to have a shop do it was because it's REALLY hot here in Louisiana right now and frankly, I just didn't want to do it. ($600 was exactly enough to change my mind, though.) Moving along, I've replaced the compressor and the receiver drier and all I have left, obviously, is the expansion valve. I've read on a few different sites that say it's usually behind the glove box. Well, I don't have a glove box (also, not a single cup holder, WTF MAZDA?!?!?) I pulled off the front panel on the passenger side and it's really hard to tell what's what, so any guidance anybody could give me as to what I would need to do to access it would be great! I recently have been getting poor acceleration around 20 to 40 mph. And I noticed that around 40 mph, my service engine soon light comes on for about 5-10 seconds. So I pulled the code using a paperclip and received OBD 1 code 53. So I researched it and found out it had to do with the EGR parts. So I replaced the EGR solenoid/ no difference, then I replaced the EGR valve and gasket/ no difference, then I replaced the vacuum lines to the EGR parts/ no difference. Then I replaced the PCV valve and grommet/ no difference. Then it got worse to where it would stall out on me for 5 sec around 20 mph. Then it got to the point where it would quit if I came to a stop, the break pressure would build up then the car would quit. But if I put it in park at a stop and gave it a little gas it would keep running. Then my air management diverter valve rattled like crazy and when it started rattling the service engine soon light would come on, so I pulled the code and got a code 34. So I replaced that part and the two check valves, but it's still the same. I am lost. There is also a plug that is unplugged with a green plug with two wires going to it, one wire goes to the wiring harness and the other goes to the mixture control solenoid plug, I was wondering if anybody knew where it plugged into. Please help. And also for a side note during everything that has been happening, it has always started right up, and the car only has 28,000 miles.

ok, my girlfriend brought her intrigue to 'a guy' to get something fixed. when it returned it had an electrical problem, and a little white box is now hanging out next to the break pedal . i have no idea what this object is called but i do believe it has to do with the lights throwout the car. when you turn the key to on, the turn-signals come on instead of the driving lights, and the break lights turn on like the headlights are on even when they arn't. turning on the lights only cause the dashboard lights behind the speedometer to go out, and if you turn the turn signal to the left one of the left headlights come on, and to the right, nothing. i believe he may have wired this box wrong but i dont know the name of it and therefor cannot look up the color coding for said object to fix it. o..... and the dimmer switch just makes everything shut down......

On the firewall behind the alternator, white smoke came out and now there is a line of brown mark on the firewall. When I have the battery cables connected in the car where the glove box is a fast multiple click happen, the temperature gauge goes past the highest mark and nothing else works. Messing with knobs and switches and nothing happens; i put the key in and turn it forward and the gauges go back to normal and no more clicking sound but the wireless remote wont work, so when i hit the unlock button nothing happens so the killswitch doesnt unlock for me to turn the enginge. I put in a new starter and everything is still happening the same just the clicking sounds is under by the pedals this time.... what else can be wrong?
