My brake lights stay on at night but when i press the brake they get a little brighter.?

I have a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora and when i turn on my headlights my brake lights come on as well. When I press on the brake they get a tad bit brighter but it is kinda hard to see the difference. Does anyone know what this is or how to fix it?
