I re-manufacture automotive A/C compressors, I believe you are referring to the clutch hub that covers the face of the compressor pulley. I do not know of any return springs, or springs of any kind, that are used in any automotive A/C compressor clutch assembly. There are many different types of hub designs utilized in clutches. The hub it's self is the spring. the coil draws the hub into the pulley to activate the compressor. ALL hubs are designed to flex when magnetically influenced. Some hubs incorporate the use of a rubber grommet to achieve this flexing action, others use ring of metal banded together with thin flat strips of spring steel riveted to the metal rings. With the year, make model and engine size of your vehicle, I will identify the compressor in your vehicle and tell you exactly which Hub style you need. I can also provide you with step by step instructions on how to remove the broken hub without damaging the extremely weak pulley that all compressors are designed with. Inspect your pulley for mating surface damage from the broken hub, how to fix that damage , if any, and finally, how to install the replacement hub with the correct gap so that your new hub doesn't break like the old one.
