What shoes are better to run in?? ?

Ok so my parents will get pissed if i buy a pair of nike cortez shoes because they want me to run in shoes that are made specifically for running but i dont want any because they arent very durable and i need a durable pair of shoes that also look nice because i will end up wearing them everywhere and i currently run in chuck taylors if it helps i run track but i do mostly jumping events
