1999 oldsmobile intrigue electrical problems?

ok, my girlfriend brought her intrigue to 'a guy' to get something fixed. when it returned it had an electrical problem, and a little white box is now hanging out next to the break pedal . i have no idea what this object is called but i do believe it has to do with the lights throwout the car. when you turn the key to on, the turn-signals come on instead of the driving lights, and the break lights turn on like the headlights are on even when they arn't. turning on the lights only cause the dashboard lights behind the speedometer to go out, and if you turn the turn signal to the left one of the left headlights come on, and to the right, nothing. i believe he may have wired this box wrong but i dont know the name of it and therefor cannot look up the color coding for said object to fix it. o..... and the dimmer switch just makes everything shut down......
